Avery Bean!!
It’s been 84 years since I’ve written to my baby girl. Everything is different and I don’t know where to start. We officially moved to Georgia! I’m writing to you from Grandma’s house right now. And we’re in the midst of apartment hunting. We put our application in for one place so fingers crossed. Only took us looking at about 14 different locations to settle on one. The Aspire at Lenox Park. For a little background, I had some paternity leave left over from when you were born, so I took 2 weeks of pat leave and tacked on a week of vacation so we could come down here and check out apartment options. Packed up our apartment in a Penske truck and Uncle Chris and Aunt Lisa drove it down here while we drove down in the car with you. We’re coming up on week three so cutting it close but hopefully everything works out. Now we need to buy furniture and figure out how we want to decorate your room. Your room! You’re going to be 6 months old next week and you’ll have your own room!
As for you, your development has been amazing. You roll over SO easy now and you started eating real food. I mean, it’s not like big people food, it’s baby food, but you love sweet potatoes. And you don’t seem to be a big fan of peas. We took you in the pool for the first time and you seemed to be okay with it. I wouldn’t say you enjoyed it, but you tolerated it after a little crying at first. But you’re back to waking up every 4 hours now, so we’re hoping once we move into the apartment you get back into a good routine. Staying at Grandma’s has been nice and definitely a life-saver but I’m looking forward to having our own space again.
In terms of pop culture, the world is still ravaged with Coronavirus and Trump is still an idiot. Not sure if I covered this in my last note because I don’t think it happened yet, but another unarmed black man was killed by police in Minnesota - which sparked protestors and riots. It’s called the Black Lives Matter movement and it’s all about equality for black people and the end of systemic racism that puts black people in a position that makes it hard or impossible for them to succeed. At first the activity was in almost every city with protests and marches every day. I think things have calmed down now but it might be that the media has grown tired of the story and started showing it less. Either way, feels like there might be real change brewing. I hope you’re able to grow up in a world without racism but I can’t see it ever fully going away.
Here is a photo recap of most our lives from the past month. Some happy, some sad. Now that we’re almost back to a normal schedule I’m going to try to write you more and give you more frequent life updates.
Love you big time,
Dad
