Hello little Darby –
It’s Sunday morning and mom is watching Orange is The New Black. It’s a show about a women’s prison that I don’t like all that much. I just got back from the gym, feeling pretty good. Yesterday turned out to be a pretty fun day. It’s exciting to think about who you’ll be and all the things we don’t know yet about being parents. We took a ride over to Buy Buy Baby on 3rd Ave in Brooklyn to take a look at strollers (pic of mom below). We suffered from a bit of sticker shock to be honest. I’m all about the smooth ride and the easy fold and most importantly, the extendable handle so I don’t have to hunch. For the most part mom agrees, I think her only other thing she’s looking for in a stroller is a lighter option. Well let me tell you something, the one we love is $900 (we tried out a few $1200s – big mistake because they were fucking awesome). But then we saw a couple in the store who were the same height as us with the Uppababy we like only it was a slightly different model. Turns out that option is only about $500, so we’ll see. We later went to Target (your moms favorite store) and found a decent option for about $200. BTW no weekend is complete until we go to Target, you will learn in time. I’ve spent more time giving Target my money than most things I enjoy doing in life. I actually like the place, but not that much.
Today, we need to go to Michaels because mom needs ribbon for Lyndsay’s bridal shower gift. But that’s all we really have planned today. Yesterday was insanely hot, I think it hit 98 but felt like 110.. today is a bit cooler.
I was just thinking that I have no idea where we’re going to raise you. Mom and I talk about it all the time but we just don’t know what to do. It’s July now and we have about $43k in the bank. By the time you’re born it’ll be around $60K. Should we move down to Georgia and buy a cheaper house and give you some room to run around? Or head over to Jersey and stay working here in NYC? Can we afford for mom to stay home with you? Or do we need to pay for daycare? Also, we’re currently driving a 2011 scion Tc, not exactly baby-friendly so we’ll need to get a new car. So much to think about and so little time. Not for you to worry about, but thought I’d share so when you’re older you understand why we ended up making whatever decision we did. Also, I’m sure one day these dollar amounts will be laughable.
Love you big time,
Dad
