Have a look at your life, one post at a time.

My Love!

Hi beautiful. Hope you’re having a great day and that everything is breaking your way. I wonder how old you are now. I’m going to guess and say 11. If I was right you have to come give me a kiss. If I was wrong, we’re going for ice cream tonight (doesn’t matter how old you are!)

It’s been a few weeks since I hopped on here and gave you a life update. I won’t bore you with quarantine stuff. Things are mostly the same. Right now in NY, we’re in Phase 1 which means retail businesses are now allowed to do curbside pickup. Outside of NY things are pretty much back to normal only everyone has to wear masks and gloves and there’s a bunch of social distancing protocols everyone needs to follow.

Culturally, there’s been a LOT going on. A black man by the name of George Floyd was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis. The officer had his knee on Floyd’s neck for almost 9 minutes and it was all captured on video. This is another instance of a police officer killing a black man on video and it has been a spark for people around the world to evaluate and fight for justice for black people. There’s a phrase that everyone rally’s around - Black Lives Matter. And it represents the fact that because of the color of their skin, black people have been oppressed and treated unfairly dating back to when they were slaves in the US, over 400 years ago. There have been protests and riots in every state calling for justice and trying to put an end to the lopsided way the world works. And in some cases, the riots have included looters, which I never understand. As part of the BLM movement, there’s a call to defund the police and take some of the money the government gives them and instead give it to community outreach programs. It’s all very important and I fully support the movement.

As a result cops and racist white people are on the defensive - saying All Lives Matter and fighting to continue their way of life. They don’t understand that equality costs them nothing. And that treating everyone with the same respect and compassion can only lead to good things.

On a personal front, we’re now less than 2 weeks away from officially moving to Georgia and Mom and I are both freaking out in our own ways. It’s exciting but there are a lot of things we still need to do. And it’s going to be crazy to leave the apartment we brought you home to, that we’ve lived in for 6 years. To leave the creature comforts of everything I love about living here. This is home. But soon it won’t be. And we’re betting that will be a good thing. Let’s hope our bet pays off! We keep reminding ourselves that this upcoming year+ is a test run to see if Georgia is the type of life we really want, and that if it isn’t we can always come back to NY.

Since we’re leaving soon, we’ve started to make the rounds and see our friends before we go. You finally got to meet Pat and his baby girl, Cynthia so that was cool. This weekend we’re headed over to Aunt Janes to see her crowd. Should be fun to see everyone for the first time since quarantine but bittersweet to say goodbye.

In some Avery news, you officially have 2 teeth coming in AND you can roll over! It’s crazy watching you grow right in front of our eyes. You’re so independent and interested in life around you. Always got your head on a swivel and a smile on your face. I love making you laugh. As I was going through some stuff the other day I came across one of my old wrestling action figures and you absolutely love him. His name is Razor Ramon.

Summer is here now and it’s getting hot. Sure it’ll be much hotter down there. Here are some pictures from the last few weeks.

Love you big time!

Dad
