What up doe. I’m listening to Maggie Rogers right now. You have to listen to her album Heard It In A Past Life because it is a banger. So chill, so vibey, so accessible. Currently really feeling the song Overnight, but I leave it up to you to pick your fav.
Quick life lesson, if you end up working in an office setting, you HAVE to become friendly with the mail room/office services people. Not saying you need to hang out with them on the weekend, but you have to know them by name and take an interest in their lives. They’ll be your best ally if you need something in a pinch and it just makes the work environment more friendly.
Also, if you end up becoming a sneakerhead – be a subtle sneakerhead. I work with a guy who shows up in a new pair of rare sneakers every day and it just feels like he’s trying really hard. Don’t try hard. Or if you do, don’t make it obvious. Style is predicated on making it seem like you just threw something on. “Oh, this old thing?” is the vibe forever.
I’ve found that in every season I pick like 3-5 pieces of clothing that I wear the shit out of. This past summer it was my white sweatpant shorts, my George t-shirts and my camo crocs. Not necessarily at the same time but those things got a lot of miles. Now that we’re in fall, I’m gonna run my new Ugg boots into the ground and probably rock my long Abercrombie topcoat. My lighter jeans are also on deck for a healthy amount of use. Wonder what your approach will be.
Knicks finally got a win last night, which was pretty sweet. I didn’t catch 99% of the game but a surprisingly good turn of events. This weekend mom and I are going to her best friend Lisa’s birthday soiree. But we’re gonna duck out before everyone heads to the city. I think they’re going to the city, maybe it’s Brooklyn. Either way, mom and I are L7weenies who like to be home.
We gotta cop a car soon! In the next two weeks. Friggin crazy. I’m thinking we should probably head to a Toyota dealership this weekend to see what’s up with the Highlander. But my heart is still set on the Tiguan. Maybe the Atlas makes more sense long-term. If we’re going to have multiple kids, maybe the math makes more sense for us to fork it over now for the third row.
Will keep you posted as always.
Love you big time,
Dad
P.S. I came back to let you know that I didn’t get promoted. I am fucking pissed. Not necessarily that I wasn’t promoted, but that my manager definitely didn’t even submit the case for me. Has no idea the responsibility or volume of work I’m doing because we don’t work on anything together. I’m livid. I got a $5K increase, which I know is nothing to sneeze at. I’m not ungrateful. But I don’t think the work level I’m doing matches my title. If I’m not a VP, I don’t know who is. If I’m not managing social for 8+ lines of business than what am I doing? Truly unbelievable. Let this be a lesson from me to you. If you want something and you truly believe you deserve it, make it known to anyone who will listen. Don’t rest your laurels on the competence of other people, because they will let you down. When I asked if the promotion process needs to start with me or my manager, I was told to be a champion for my own career. You better believe that I will be doing that from now on.
