8.1.23 (Isla's First Post)
And now a post just for Isla Wren. Your very first solo post in these parts. I’ve decided to open this up to talk to both of my squigglers. For so long it was Avery-only because you didn't exist. But now that you’re here I’ve got things to share with you as well. Like all about how you were born and the stuff you’re doing these days.
Just like your sister, you probably would have been a late arrival but this time around Mom’s doctor wanted you outta there. She said we could go early but Mom wanted to wait until your due date - which made your birthday Thursday May 18, 2023. We went to Northside Hospital nice and early that morning to get Mom induced. The morning was pretty slow going but things got started up once they gave her the epidural and some Pitocin. That got the show on the road, only after mom had to go through excruciating pain when the doctor tried to break her water. Brutal man I swear. I was ready to hit the doctor for what she was doing to mom. But then they drugged her and the wheels were set in motion. The nurse came in with a new nurse to let her check and see if mom was dilated enough. She didn’t think so but then the OG nurse checked and said oh yeah we’re ready there’s the head. So in came the doctor, bright lights were on and mama was pushing. Only took about 3 or 4 pushes before you were out here in the world with us.
I got a major scare when you came out because I could see the umbilical cord wrapped around your throat but the doctor snipped it and started clearing your passageway. From there the nurses kept sucking all the extra fluid out of your mouth. Just like that, we had 2 little girls. You looked JUST like Avery when you came out, it was crazy lol. It took a while for them to get you cleaned up and warm. Then we went over to our room for the night and I was finally able to hold you.
Mom did awesome during the labor which has become pretty standard for her. Pregnancy is not her friend but labor and her get along just fine.
Your stats when you were born: 7lbs, 9oz, 21 inches long and you came out at 3:03pm.
These days you’re lifting your head and looking around and giving us smiles. Really trying to laugh. You hate tummy time but it’s so good for you. You CANNOT STAND laying down when you’re awake. Here are some photos of you from the day you were born and over the past two months of your little life.
