Hi Bean!

Wanted to write to you today with a life lesson I’ve stumbled upon. And it’s one that I think I’ve known for a while but in the daily slog gets lost. So thought it would be a good time to share with you before I lose it again.

Other people’s success shouldn’t take away from your happiness.

Now I know that if you and another person go out for a spot on a team or a job and they get it but you don’t that this rule doesn’t apply. But broadly, there’s enough happiness in the world to go around. So don’t spend your time being bitter about how other people are doing. And don’t waste your time or energy getting wrapped in comparing yourself. I know I’ve shared this one before: Comparison is the thief of joy.

It really is.

If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself thinking that other people are “try-hards” and that they need to relax because giving your best shot isn’t cool. But that’s a sub-lesson for today. TRYING YOUR HARDEST IS COOL AS FUCK. Being the smartest, funniest, hardest-working person is a GREAT THING. So don’t dim your light because you want to seem like you’re cooler than you are. The coolest thing you can do is to be wildly and authentically yourself.

I’m sharing this lesson because there’s a girl I work with/against at a competitor agency who is really EXTRA. Like overwhelming in a really annoying way. HOWEVER, she’s great at her job and she just got a position as the Global Director of Social Media for Jordan Brand. AKA a job that I would love to have. My immediate reaction was to hate on her and then look inward and say “why am I not getting opportunities like that?”. Maybe it’s because I only present a guarded and jaded version of myself in the workplace. If I brought my whole self to work and stopped worrying about being “cool”, maybe I would unlock a new and improved version of myself. So I’m going to try it and I wanted to pass along a bit of life with you.

I love you and I want you to have the best life possible where all your wildest dreams come true and you find love and fulfillment and adventure.

Love you big time,

Dad

P.S. Came back to share some photos which include shots from Easter and fun at the park.
