Hi Munchkin –
Officially one week from your due date! Ahhh! Mom and I went to the doctor today and saw you squirming around in there. I took a video and grabbed a couple pics. That’s one of your spine, curled up in mom’s belly.
After the doctor we went to the mall because mom wanted to get her eyebrows done. We ate some Taco Bell and then walked around a little bit. Mom can’t do much walking though, so we hit the eyebrow place and came home. I dropped mom off and now she’s working. I ran to Key Food to get stuff for lunch and now I’m writing to you! It’s really rainy and dreary and I feel a general malaise. I’m sure it will all change once you’re here, but I have work to do that I’ve been putting off. Mom is crazy for covering stuff at work today. She’s a hard worker and can’t turn that off. Going to be really interesting once you’re born.
I haven’t passed along any insightful wisdom lately, but I think I have something to share. I told you the other day that I was watching The Imagineers on Disney+, a show about the folks at Disney who help build their theme parks and create experiences for their audiences. It impressed upon me the importance of storytelling. I feel like you never think about it practically, but storytelling is THE key piece of the human experience. It’s what drives business, inspires people, connects us and draws things out of us that we didn’t know existed. The stories Disney tells teach us and pull on our emotions. The best comedians are the best storytellers. The people you want to be around are either the ones you make memories (read: stories) with OR the people who tell those stories best. The songs with the most impact and the greatest cultural significance are the ones that tell the best stories. Hell, if we’re being honest – the Bible is one big collection of stories. I encourage you to explore storytelling in a way that makes sense for you. Could be through visuals, photography, written word, movies, music, stand-up, whatever makes you feel fulfilled. But remember, a great story can connect the world. And if it’s not the story itself, it might be a character from the story. I’m so excited to welcome you to my story. You’re about to be the main character.
Love you big time,
Dad
