Hi tiny Tuney -

Mom and I are sitting on the couch with you hanging out. This morning you had your very first doctor’s appointment and you did so good! You got a shot and only cried a little bit, such a trooper. These first few days with you have been a sleepy awesome marathon. We’re getting to know you. From food to poops to comfort and burps. It’s all new!

I figured right now would be a good time to tell you a little bit about mom’s delivery. We got to the hospital at 7am and mom got started with her petosin to start the labor around 10am. After that it was a pretty decent amount of time before mom started feeling contractions, but once she did - she REALLY felt them. Like worst pain I’ve ever seen her in. It was tough to watch, knowing I couldn’t help her. So we called the anesthesiologist to give her an epidural but there was another surgery going on so she took a while. Then it was a whole process to give mom the drug because they had to do it while she was having contractions. But then when it started working things were much much better. From then on, we just sat around waiting and at about 5:15 Dr. Campanella came in to check on mom and he said he could see your head! Just like that. He told us he was going to give it about 20 mins to let you get situated and make it easier to deliver you but it ended up being closer to an hour. That was such a weird time, honestly. Mom and I were nervous, excited, terrified, anxious - all these emotions because we knew you were coming soon and it was about to get really intense.

Once he came in and got mom ready, things actually went pretty easy. About 5 batches of pushing and 15 minutes later there you were! The shock of our lives that you were a girl. Mom and I couldn’t believe it lol. You were blue and slimy. They put you on mom right away but you were making a little grunting noise so they took you over under the heated lamp area and stuck a tiny tube down your throat to get some extra fluid out of you. It was really scary but I also had a feeling that the nurses and everyone weren’t feeling any anxiety about it so I thought you might end up being okay. While they were cleaning you off, the doctor stitched mom up and I had no idea where to be. I was switching between checking on you and checking on mom. What a whirlwind.

We spent some time saying hi and they put you on mom to see if you would feed. You latched right away! I ran down to get us a private room and tell grandma, grandpa and Lisa that you were a girl. Everyone was excited and equally shocked. Then we went to the room and got settled in so everyone could come and say hi.

That first night was ROUGH - lots of nurses in and out and mom and I were exhausted from the emotion of the day. I think we collectively got about 3 hours of sleep but you fell asleep in my arms and it was like magic. Daddy’s girl.

The next day was a blur of sleep, changing you, feeding you and feeling groggy, More checks on you to make sure everything looked good and checks on mom to make sure she was healing properly. That night, mom was a real trooper and stayed up with you in her arms while I slept.

On Friday morning we found out we were going to to be able to take you home that day, so I ran home to bring some stuff and make some room for you in the car. I gotta go help mom but I’ll be back tomorrow with more of what happened.

Love you big time!

Dad
